Corporate Social Responsibility
In addition to sustainability, corporate social responsibility is an important aspect in the daily operations of our hotel. Together with our employees we participate every year in various events and charity initiatives organised by different organisations and that contribute to the local community. In 2018 our CSR policy revolves around several key themes such as employment and vulnerable children. We contribute to the following initiatives:
Princess Máxima Center Foundation
As the Amstel Hotel, we always aim to find a local charity to support. For the Treelighting celebration in 2018, we donated all proceeds to the Princess Máxima Center Foundation for pediatric oncology. Every year, approximately 600 children in the Netherlands are diagnosed with cancer. One in four children with cancer still dies as a result of this disease. We hope to continue to build upon our connection to the center in the future, and invite our visitors to read more about their initiatives on their own website.
De Waterheuvel is a community for people that had psychiatric difficulties and daily come together in the clubhouse to participate in projects to forget the struggles they have to deal with in normal live. De Waterheuvel also offers Transitional Employment that provides members with the opportunity to work for a real employer during a period of 6 months.
We are very proud of the collaboration with De Waterheuvel. Members of De Waterheuvel get the opportunity to work in the hotel, create structure in their lives and develop themselves on a personal level.
Only Friends is a sports club for children with physical limitations or mental disabilities. They offer 24 different sports, which can be practiced at the modern Friendship Sports Centre. In 2015 Only Friends celebrated their 15th anniversary and we had the honour to host this great event. Throughout the years, we have continued to be in close connection with Only Friends. In 2018, we donated all proceeds of our Sinterklaas event (a Dutch traditional feast on December 5th) to the organization, and were delighted to welcome some little Only Friends to the celebration.
Jinc helps children from 8 until the age of 16 with a good start of a professional life, they provide those children (of poor households and often living in an unemployed environment) with professional orientation, learning social skills and offer them workshops about entrepreneurship. Jinc gives these children a chance for a better future. Several times a year we invite a group of Jinc to let them experience working in the hospitality industry.
Hulphond Nederland is committed to people with physical or mental disabilities. The living conditions of those people are enhanced with service dogs through the efforts of Hulphond Nederland. The organisation prevents that people become isolated because of their disabilities and offer them new perspectives by improving their quality of live. In March 2017 Hulphond Nederland hosted a charity gala and raised money for the training and deployment of service dogs with an auction.
